Understanding the life cycle costs of an asset gives you the ability to optimize the investment in the asset. In order to understand life cycle you need to understand purchase costs, maintenance history and repair history. With this information you can begin to look at how much maintenance an asset should receive to extend its life and when an asset should ideally be replaced.
